Qualifications & Training

Julia is a registered psychologist and has commenced her endorsement in clinical psychology. With regards to current professional development, Julia is currently completing a Complex Trauma Certification Training with trauma expert therapist Dr Janina Fisher.

Experience & Therapeutic Approach

In both her training and clinical practice, Julia gained experience across a variety of settings, specifically: public inpatient clinics providing services to individuals with mental health problems of mild to moderate severity, public and non-for-profit community mental health services providing services to individuals with complex mental health problems of moderate to high severity, a university student counselling service, and a perinatal mental health clinic.

Julia has been providing individual therapy and facilitated and co-facilitated a variety of different types of group therapy. Across these settings, Julia gained experience in the application of a number of different therapeutic modalities including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Meditation, interventions informed by attachment theory, elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, neurobiologically-informed psychological interventions, trauma-informed care, as well as different types of art, music and movement therapies.

Julia has worked with adults across a wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds, ages and mental health problems (including clients experiencing depression and anxiety). Julia has a particular interest in working with clients who present with the following:

  • trauma-related presentations across a wide spectrum of severity, including PTSD, complex and/or early attachment trauma, personality disorders, dissociative identity disorder (DID).

  • perinatal mental health, including mental health presentations during pregnancy until two years post-partum, and problems relating to the mother-infant relationship.

Julia views therapy as a process of discovery that supports the integration of past trauma and the strengthening of a person's sense of self. To achieve this, Julia works in a person-centered and trauma-informed way, which focuses first and foremost on a sense of safety for the client, and allows for the sensitive exploration of problems and symptoms at the client's pace.

Julia aims to understand a person and their specific symptoms with their respective functions in the life circumstances they occur, as well as in the context of the person's early life experiences, including the attachment to parents or caregivers. She draws on the variety of therapeutic modalities from her training and work experience to meet clients’ needs and builds on clients' existing strengths to aid the therapeutic progress.
